The brief

Dentacoin launched at the peak of the ICO era - an Ethereum-based token meant to bring real value to the dental industry, not just to traders. The idea started with a trusted review platform where patients could rate dentists and dentists could respond, with the incentives behind it recorded transparently on the blockchain instead of held by a platform owner.

When we joined, there was a whitepaper and a pre-ICO website - the idea, not yet the product. From there the plan grew: the review platform first, then a market survey platform, a loyalty programme for patients, and a wider suite of tools for dentists and patients alike, all built on the same blockchain foundation.

We worked alongside Dentacoin's marketing, product, legal and blockchain teams as one unit, shipping new features and improvements every week for several years.

The challenge
  • 01Turning a whitepaper and a pre-ICO website into a working product before the token's own momentum ran out.
  • 02A review and rewards system that had to be trustworthy by design - the incentives were the whole pitch, so gaming them had to be genuinely hard, not just against the rules.
  • 03Integrating an Ethereum token and smart contracts into an everyday product for dentists and patients who'd never touched crypto, without it ever feeling like one.
  • 04Shipping weekly across marketing, legal and blockchain teams that all had a stake in what went out the door.
Goals we agreed on
  • +A review platform patients and dentists would actually trust, with the incentives behind it verifiable on the blockchain rather than taken on faith.
  • +Market research and a loyalty programme that gave the token a reason to be used, not just traded.
  • +Fraud protection and reporting solid enough that Dentacoin's own team could run the platform without us in the room.
  • +A system secure and scalable enough to carry real money and real reputations, built by a team that could ship it every week.

The token was the funding model. The product had to be the reason dentists and patients actually used it.

What we built

Four products built directly for Dentacoin, all reading from and writing to the same blockchain-backed foundation.

4 products
Trust

Review platform

Patients rate dentists and dentists respond, with the incentives behind every review recorded transparently on the blockchain instead of held by a platform owner.

Research

Market survey platform

Paid surveys giving Dentacoin real market research from dentists and patients, with rewards issued directly in token.

Retention

Loyalty programme

A rewards programme that kept patients coming back, paying out in Dentacoin for the everyday actions that build a dental practice's trust.

Backoffice

Fraud protection, analytics & reporting

The tooling behind the token-facing products - fraud detection, usage analytics and reporting for Dentacoin's own team to run the platform on.

How we worked

Not phases handed off one after another - one team, several disciplines, shipping weekly for years.

01

From whitepaper to product

We started from an idea and a pre-ICO website, and built the review platform first - the piece the whole token's value proposition rested on.

02

Expanding the suite

The survey platform, the loyalty programme and the backoffice tools behind them followed, each wired into the same token economy as the review platform before it.

03

Blockchain, without the friction

Token minting and distribution stayed with Dentacoin's own team; we integrated the token and smart contracts into the platform and made sure the whole system stayed secure, scalable and simple enough for a dentist who'd never touched crypto.

04

One unit, weekly releases

Marketing, product, legal, blockchain and our own developers worked as a single team, shipping new features and improvements every week for years.

More than the code

Building on a blockchain in the middle of the ICO boom meant the technical work never stood apart from the legal, financial and reputational sides of the project.

One team across four disciplines

Marketing, product and legal specialists at Dentacoin, their blockchain team, and our own developers worked as a single unit rather than handing work across a wall - which is what weekly releases for years actually requires.

Security for a token-facing product

Fraud protection and system security weren't an afterthought - real money and real reputations rode on the review and reward system holding up under bad actors, not just under normal use.

Built to keep working, not just to launch

We built for a platform meant to run for years, not just to look good on the day of the ICO.

Stack & integrations

Chosen to bridge a conventional web stack with an Ethereum-based token economy - Geth running the node behind it, smart contracts handling what needed to be trustless, and everything else built to be secure, scalable and simple for dentists and patients who'd never touched crypto.

Where it stands now

Like many ICO-era projects, Dentacoin's funding and token value were tied to the wider crypto market, and the project was put on hold in 2022. We're proud of what we built together - a review platform, market research, a loyalty programme and the infrastructure behind all of it - and we'd be glad to see Dentacoin's mission for the dental industry continue.
